Citizen is more than just a personal safety network; it's a powerful tool that enables users to safeguard themselves, their loved ones, and their communities. The app offers real-time 911 alerts, immediate assistance from crisis responders, and safety tracking features for friends and family.

In 2020, I had the privilege of joining the Citizen Founders to develop an exciting new feature that promised to redefine the app's capabilities and elevate security measures to unprecedented heights. This groundbreaking feature, known as Citizen Live, marked a significant milestone as the first of its kind.

Citizen Live went beyond traditional incident reporting. It empowered users to broadcast events in real-time, offering a live perspective on activities unfolding across the city. With millions of active users, this feature positioned Citizen as a pioneer in reporting on events as they happened. The Citizen app seamlessly transitioned from a daily activity feed to a live broadcast with access to thousands of pocket cameras, providing an unparalleled view of unfolding situations.

The Future of News

MVP

After months of intense focus, numerous meetings, and countless design iterations, we took to the streets of NYC with our most viable product to gather user feedback. The response was overwhelmingly positive, affirming the potential impact of Citizen Live, later rebranded as Citizen OnAir. This revolutionary feature was not a simple plug-and-play addition but a sophisticated system requiring a dedicated team to run live news broadcasts 24/7.

Drawing from my experience at HQ Trivia, where a studio full of brilliant minds struggled to create a daily 10-minute live broadcast, we recognized the challenges. Despite the lack of initial resources, Citizen OnAir was poised to revolutionize the way citizens receive local news. As production ramped up, we anticipated a transformative shift in the news landscape, offering a unique and immersive experience for users eager to engage with real-time, community-driven updates.
